In the mag this month, we've got a full-length feature on the 50to01 crew. We chat to co-founder Josh Lewis about how it came about and what the hell the name means, before we follow the Santa Cruz Bicycles-sponsored half of the crew on a sushi-eating, karaoke-singing roadtrip to Japan. You can read all about it in our March issue (366), which is on sale now.

Because putting out videos is at the heart of what the 50to01 do, we also asked the boys to pick their top video sections of all time. What inspired them growing up and what gets them fired up to ride now?

Earthed 2: This was the first DVD I ever got. There’s just so many sections in it that I must’ve watched a hundred times. At 11-years-old, I just tried to do what they were doing and that’s what got me hyped on mountain bikes.

Dan Paley – BSD's Transmission: Even though it’s BMX and I can’t do any of that stuff, the riding and the Wiley soundtrack gets me buzzing! A little after I'd first seen the edit, I met Dan at Revolution Bike Parks and he’s a mad dog!

Rich Forne – Welcome to Federal: I'm gonna have to agree with Mark and say the Dan Paley edit too. That tune gets me fired up when I want to do something on a bike! I love this edit too though. Rich Forne is usually a filmer and he's a really good editor, but his welcome to Federal part is good... really good.

Made/Earthed: I used to love seeing Wharncliffe Woods on videos. Peaty riding there in Earthed and with Rat in Callum Swift's Made. It's just cool seeing your home trails in a video that’s gone out to the world.

Sam Dale

Sam Hill – F1rst: He was in his prime and it's just ultimate!

Chase Hawk: Another vid I used to watch when I was at school was Chase Hawk riding the Fox trails in America. Absolute steezeman! [Ed – We can't find that exact edit, but this one is pretty damn good!]

Earthed 5: As a whole. It came out, just as I was really getting into bikes and I'd watch it every day. I know the soundtrack, I know the lyrics, I knew when people were going to rail a turn or crash... everything!

Craig Evans

The Earthed Series: For me it was always Earthed. Nico Vink in Alpe d’Huez with a Dead Kennedys tune is a banging segment. Sam Hill in Mont-Sainte-Anne on the tight tech stuff, riding it like no one else can, and Adam Brayton’s section from Earthed 5.
