Fort William

Fort William’s Nevis Range is famed as a World Cup venue and all three race courses (DH, XC and 4X) are open to the public to ride. There are also skills loops, XC trails and green and blue descents accessed from the forest road. If you really want to test your skills, you can jump on the gondola to ride The Red Giant, a singletrack descent packed with 543m of gravity-fed fun, or take on the ultimate challenge – the World Cup downhill track!

THE TRAILS:

CATS EYES GREEN (3.5KM, GREEN)

BROOMSTICK BLUE (19KM, BLUE)

A great one to start on, this trail bubbles round the River Lundy on lots of flowing singletrack.

BLUE ADDER (3.4KM, BLUE)

An XC trail with a fast top section and 80m of bermed boardwalk. The top can also be accessed via the uplift service.

THE WITCH’S WORLD CHAMPS (8.5KM, RED)

This is a ‘one climb and one descent’ kind of trail, both of which are long and steep (the descent is 3km). The world-class singletrack was originally built for the 2007 XC World Championships.

10 UNDER THE BEN (10KM, RED)

This trail is a mix of dedicated singletrack and forest road. It’s based on the route used for the annual 10 Under the Ben event, a 10-hour XC marathon. Don’t get caught out by ‘Nessie’, a black-graded descent.

THE RED GIANT (5.5KM, RED)

Dropping 543m over 5.5km, The Red Giant is a tasty technical trail with berms, large rock rollers, steps and drop-offs. The gondola’s open May to September, but check it’s running before you visit.

WORLD CUP DH (2.8KM, ORANGE)

Britain’s only UCI World Cup track. Mostly made up of wide singletrack, with lots of unavoidable trail features – make sure you look before you leap here.
