The Crankworx World Tour returns to Australia next week after a successful inaugural visit last year. Crankworx Cairns 2024 kicks off on Wednesday 22 May and features dual slalom, downhill, speed-and-style and pump track racing, the Official Australian Whip-Off Championships and – arguably the headline event – an FMB Diamond-level slopestyle contest.

At Smithfield Mountain Bike Park in Northern Queensland, the crew have been hard at work clearing up damage caused by a tropical storm in December and making some improvements. "The aftermath of Cyclone Jasper presented us with an opportunity to rethink and refine our courses," explains event director Nathan Bassett. Changes have been made to the slopestyle course and the whip-off section.

Aussie stars including 'Sik' Mick Hannah, Caroline Buchanan, Ryan Gilchrist and Harriet Burbidge-Smith are set to attend, joined by UK riders including backflip world champ Tom Isted and former MBUK columnist Martha Gill, plus other big names from around the world.
