Brechfa

The beautiful Brechfa Forest is home to some great natural-feeling trails. Two of them, a green with a blue extension and a black, start at the Byrgwm car park and the third, a red, begins at Abergorlech. To fuel your ride, there are plenty of local pubs – The Forest Arms is now open in Brechfa village or there’s The Black Lion in Abergorlech, both of which offer excellent grub. There’s another red trail, Cwm Rhaeadr, about 20 miles north of Brechfa, which has a fantastic long singletrack descent.

THE TRAILS:

DERWEN GREEN (9.2KM, GREEN)

Unusually for a green trail, this has a good amount of quite wide singletrack. It’s an ideal starting point for beginners, with steady climbs and a fun descent to the car park.

DERWEN BLUE (4.7KM, BLUE)

The blue route branches off from the green trail at the halfway point, taking riders off for a slightly longer and faster descent that contains a fun and fast section of rollers.

GORLECH (19KM, RED)

Starting with a big old fireroad climb, the Gorlech soon redeems itself with good singletrack and an exciting descent full of berms, switchbacks and jumps that ought to keep you grinning

RAVEN (18.5KM, BLACK)

The black-graded trail mixes narrow woodland singletrack with fast, undulating descents around berms and over (rollable) jumps.
